Korean BBQ and Gochujang Seasoned are what is available in our area grocery stores here in the Colorado Front Range. So, let’s see how they add up and taste!

Visual

The dark brown strips look like marinated flank steak. The pieces are irregular, have those “skirt steak” ridges and undulations, and are not exactly perfect, which is what you might get when you cut and marinade your own flank or skirt steak. After cooking, they get a beautiful glaze that speaks “I’m fabulous” to the diner.

Tactile 

The strips feel like marinated and cooked animal beef. They are flexible yet have the “stringiness” striations of beef.

Cooking – how did they hold up?

Per the packaging:

Nonstick Frying Pan/Skillet

Heat a nonstick pan over medium heat for 30 sec. Add 1 TBSP of oil to the pan. Remove the product from the pouch and add it to the pan. Stir for 2 min. and 30 sec. Tips: Add more oil if it looks dry and cook longer, if necessary, to achieve desired texture preference.

You can also briefly air fry at 390 degrees for 4-5 minutes or microwave for 2-3 minutes.

I went for the skillet, i.e., a stir fry method. I stir-fried to caramelize the tips, then added cabbage, broccoli, non-beef broth, and Yakisoba noodles to make a quick wonderful lunch.

Taste and Texture:

Like beef, these plant-based steak tips are chewy and have a wonderful amount of umami to mimic real beef flavors and Korean BBQ. I could gush, but you get the picture.

Ingredients:

The 4 core ingredients include water, sauce, textured soy protein, and oil. All other ingredients listed are sub-ingredients within each ingredient source. Other sauce ingredients include sugar, water, soy sauce, pear puree, onion, garlic, apple puree, caramelized sugar syrup, cornstarch, ginger, green onions, maltodextrin, salt, dextrin, black pepper, guar gum, and xanthan gum. These are all ingredients to enhance and bind sauces.

Nasoya Plantspired Plant-based Steak Korean BBQ weighs in at:

Nutrition

Protein – 14 grams – above my minimum of 12 grams per serving

Fat – 10 grams – slightly higher than my minimum of 9 grams of fat per serving

Sodium – 520 grams – a tad above my minimum of 500 mg

Fiber – 5 grams. Fiber always gets bonus points.

Overall, I recommend Nasoya Planspired Korean BBQ Plant-based Steak pieces. You can always reduce the fat in the rest of your dish if that is of concern to you.

These steak pieces would be great in:

Stir-fries

Wraps

Salads

Soups

Noodles

Soft tacos

Rice dishes

I think they would even be good on a fusion pizza!
