Being a grandparent is awesome. I totally get it now why there is such excitement about being a grandparent. There is something wonderful about seeing your children begin their own family, and 
seeing the next generation explore, laugh, and live. Grandparents Day is coming up. What are some great ideas for Grandparents Day?
Buying a gift for grandparents shouldn’t be daunting. Generally, we are starting to have everything, which is, sometimes the problem. But, we do tend to be in a position to want to share our heritage, culture, leave a legacy, and share some wisdom. We love smiling young faces and the experience of children bringing happiness and joy to our lives. Yes, the cute gift things are cool but may very well wind up on a thrift store shelf. Not sure anyone wants a picture of me on a mug staring at them from a Goodwill angle.
Eight Great Ideas for Grandparents Day
- Video – Pictures are great but in future years, being able to see your grandparents in live-action beats a still photo. No equipment is needed other than your phone and some interview questions. And do this before the Memory Thief gets in the way. Regardless of whether it is dementia or just many years passing, have fun with some memories while they are easy to recall. Consider questions that relate directly to your young children, such as, if you could, what would you tell your grandchildren about this time? When they ask about Grandma and Grandpa in their teens or twenties, you can share the video.
- Podcast – This is an even easier method for those film-shy grandparents. If you can’t do it, hire someone to interview your parents as a legacy for your grandparents.
- Music – When children sing, the angels spread their wings in joy. Record your children singing a tune. Who doesn’t smile when a child sings? Or when a mother is singing to her infant in her arms?
- Reading – Have your child recite a poem or tell a story for their grandparents.
- Storyworth – This product is a super way to preserve your family members through thoughtful questioning. Storyworth does the rest. Discover something new about your relatives and feel more connected.
- Something to eat or drink they could eat with their grandchildren. Consider a treat that relates to something about the person. Perhaps they were beekeepers and you want to give them some local or boutique honey. - Customized phone cases – I don’t know a grandparent who doesn’t like to show others their grandchildren. Me included. Why not help us out by creating a phone case with the grandchildren on it?
- Craft a homemade card. Grandparents LOVE things their grandchildren make. So get out the scissors, glue, craft paper, and paint, and get to work! We will hang them all over our refrigerator and then probably put them in a scrapbook for the future.
